NOW, deadline 3/1 Main Street Scholarship Main Street Scholarship applications are now available for all seniors in the Mercer County School District. They can be picked up at Mercer County High School or downloaded from the Aledo Main Street website www.aledomainstreet.com. Application due date is March 1, 2012.   
NOW, deadline 5/1 MC Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship The Mercer County Hospital Auxiliary is offering four $500 scholarships to residents of Mercer County who are enrolling in any medical field of study. Applications for the $500 scholarships are available in the Mercer County Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop or can be obtained online at www.mercerhospital.org. The completed application must be received by May 1, 2012, and the scholarships will be presented at the Mercer County Hospital Auxiliary Annual Meeting on June 21.
NOW, deadline 3/28 Mercer County Women for Women Scholarships Mercer County Women for Women is offering 4 scholarships of $400 each to female residents of Mercer County who wish to further their post-secondary education on a full-time or part-time basis.  Applications are available at public libraries in Aledo, Seaton, Viola, New Windsor, and Sherrard; at any high school where Mercer County students attend; and at Monmouth College, Augustana College, Black Hawk College in Moline, and Carl Sandburg College. Applications may also be obtained by calling Nancy Watkins at 582-7352.  Applications must be postmarked by March 28, 2012, to be considered.
NOW, deadline 3/31 MC Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarships

The Mercer County Farm Bureau Foundation is offering scholarships to students who are to be admitted to a post-secondary school during the 2012-2013 school year. Applicants must be members of the Mercer County Farm Bureau or a dependent of a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau. Applicants must also meet all other eligibility requirements pertaining to the Foundation’s scholarship program. To obtain a scholarship application, visit www.mercercfb.org, stop by the Farm Bureau office at 206 SE Third St, Aledo, or call (309) 582-5116. Deadline for scholarship applications is March 31, 2012.

Feb. 21 & 23 Six-Week Healthy Living Program Focuses on Chronic Illness   Those suffering with a long-term health condition such as diabetes, arthritis, fibromyalgia, depression, cancer or other chronic disease have a place to turn to help set goals, manage stress, develop healthy habits and more. The Mercer County Health Department is offering two 6-week sessions of their "Healthy Living Program." Classes will be on Tuesdays at 5:30 pm, beginning Feb. 21st at the MC Health Department in Aledo and on Thursdays at 1:30 pm, starting Feb. 23rd at Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor. Call Jennifer Anderson at 309-582-3759 to reserve your spot for this very informative workshop.
Feb. 22 Music Concert The Mercer County Music Theory class will hold a concert at the Mercer County High School Auditorium on Wednesday, Feb. 22nd, starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission is by donation. Each of the students will perform a song from a different genre of music. Artitsts being performed will include Carrie Underwood, Ben Folds, Adele, Jack Johnson, Frank Sinatra and more. Plan to attend this great evening of entertainment. 
Feb. 22 American Red Cross Blood Drive  Wed., Feb. 22, 2 - 6 pm, an American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held at the Alexis Community Center. Call Sheila Pressley at 482-5549 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins will also be accepted but appointments are preferred. Please bring your photo ID or Red Cross Donor Card.
Feb. 23 Federal Crop Insurance Seminar Join the Mercer County Farm Bureau Marketing Committee on Thursday, February 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the Mercer County Farm Bureau Building basement.  Doug Yoder, Illinois Farm Bureau Senior Director of Marketing and Risk Management, will be presenting on Federal Crop Insurance prices as well as the new changes to Federal Crop Insurance. There will be plenty of time to have all of your questions answered so be sure to join us on February 23rd. Light refreshments will be served.
Feb. 23 Mercer County Quilters Monthly Meeting The monthly meeting for  Mercer County Quilters Guild will be Thurs., Feb. 23, in the activity room of Mercer County Nursing  Home. The meeting will start at 7 pm and the program will be on "Basket  Weaving" by Colleen Moore .  
Feb. 25 Ladies "Fun in The Son" Retreat

Canton Assembly of God Church, 200 Stonegate Drive, Canton, IL, will host a Ladies' Retreat on Saturday, February 25th, from 10 am to 3 pm. The theme "Fun In The SON" will feature Cookie Harper from Decatur Teen Challenge as the keynote speaker, as well as break-out sessions and door prizes. Worship will be led by Pastor Jon Post from Peoria 1st Assembly of God. The cost is $10 per attendee, which includes lunch. You may register in advance by calling Nancy White at 309-647-3286 or doors will open at 9:30 am for on-site registration. All area ladies are invited.

Feb. 25 Soup Supper Benefits New Boston Fish Fry Fireworks The Citizens of New Boston Group invite everyone to a Soup Supper on Sat., Feb. 25, 4-7 pm, at the New Boston Community Center. Enjoy chili, vegetable & potato soups, plus a bake sale, 50/50 raffle and basket raffle. The cost is a $5 donation at the door. This is a fundraiser for the 2012 Fish Fry Fireworks.  
Feb. 25 Viola Methodist Men Pancake and Sausage Supper Viola United Methodist Men will hold their annual Pancake and Sausage Supper from 5 to 7 pm, Sat., Feb. 25, in the Fellowship Hall of the Viola United Methodist Church. Cost is by freewill donation.
Feb. 26 Little Cedar Church Soup Luncheon Little Cedar Church in Little York will host a Soup & Salad Luncheon on Sun., Feb. 26, 11:30 - 1:30.  Come enjoy chili, vegetable, turkey noodle and broccoli cheese soups along with all the salads you care to eat.  The cost is by donation with proceeds benefitting the church's playground equipment fund. There will also be a silent auction.
Feb. 26  New Boston Baseball/Softball Sign-Up  New Boston Baseball & Softball Sign-up for all leagues is Sun., Feb. 26, 3 - 5 pm, at the New Boston Fire Station. Sign up during these days and take advantage of early bird savings: $20 (1st player), $10 (2nd player), $5 (each additional player). Mar. 2 American Legion Bingo Aledo American Legion Bingo starts Friday, March 2. Bingo is every Friday with doors opening at 5 p.m., and bingo starting at 6:30 p.m. Food and drink will be available. Mar. 3 Rockridge Booster Club Annual Raffle & Dance

Rockridge Booster Club will host the 23rd Annual Raffle, Dance & Silent Auction on Sat., March 3rd at the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 25, 4600 Blackhawk Road, Rock Island.  Doors open at 6 pm with Silent Auction, 6-9; Ticket Raffle & music by Pulse Ox, 8 - midnight.  There will be complimentary Hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar.  Full ticket donation is $100 per ticket.  They will sell shared number/prize tickets in $25.  Thirty cash prizes totaling $13,000 will be given away.  Call Drue Griffin, 309-537-3148, with any questions.  To purchase your ticket, contact any Booster club member or visit the Rockridge High School website for a dance ticket form. This event is their major fund raiser of the year and provides support for the extracurricular activities of Rockridge Community Schools.      

Mar. 3 4-H Chili Cook-Off You are invited to the 2nd Annual 4-H Chili Cook-Off on Sat., March 3, from 4-7 pm at Mercer County Intermediate School. Each 4-H Club will be cooking up a pot of their best chili. Aledo firefighters will be judging and you can place your vote as well. There is no cost for this event; however, free-will donations will be accepted with proceeds going to the Mercer County Animal Control facility.

Thursdays Latex Paint Recycling Do you have latex paint that you want to get rid of safely? You may stop by Aledo City Hall on Thursdays between 8 am - 3 pm to let them know what you have to recycle. They will then have someone meet you at the PD Garage to turn in your latex paints. Spray paints are not accepted. For more information on recycling potentially hazardous materials, contact Aledo City Hall at 582-7241.
2nd Thursday each month Caregiver Support Group Caregiver Support Group meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month, 1:30 - 3 pm, at the Mercer County Senior Center.
